Travel mode

On the road you reach for littledots with one hand, usually in a hurry, and you want very few things from it: what comes next today, how to get there, a quick way to get a photo onto the trip, and the people you are traveling with. Travel mode gives the trip you are on a screen of its own with exactly those.

Turning on Travel mode

While a trip is under way, the Trips tab offers Travel mode under Current travels. Tap Turn on. If you closed that offer, a small Travel mode button sits next to the heading instead.

You can also switch it on and off in the menu behind your avatar, where Travel mode has a switch of its own.

The tabs along the bottom go away while it is on, and the trip fills the screen. It opens on the trip that is happening today. The trip's name at the top switches to any other trip of yours, for as long as you stay in Travel mode.

Today's plan comes first

The itinerary opens on today, with a line marking where you are in the day and the next item in view. The next item tells you how long until it starts, so you know whether there is time for another coffee.

The arrow beside an item with a place opens it in your maps app, ready for directions. Expand shows the whole trip rather than today, and once you scroll away from today, a Now button takes you back.

Adding photos while you are there

Add photos is the big button under the plan. You pick the photos and choose where they go, on the whole trip or on one itinerary item, and the search there finds the item by name. Media next to it opens everything the trip already holds.

The trip's chat

Under the photos are the last few messages from the trip's chat, with a field to write to everyone on the trip. On a trip you share, that is where "lobby at 9:40?" goes. More about chats on a shared trip is in Shared travel.

Everything else is one tap away

A row of shortcuts opens the rest of the trip: Weather for its forecast, the Map, Flights when the trip has any, Add to the plan, Documents for the tickets and bookings, and People. Each one opens the same screen you would find on the trip itself, so Travel mode puts the trip first without doing anything the rest of the app does not.

Leaving Travel mode

Leave travel mode is the last of the shortcuts, and the switch in the avatar menu works too. On a day when none of your trips is under way, Travel mode says so and offers the same way out.
