Shared travel
Most trips have more than one person on them. littledots lets everyone on a trip work from the same plan, while each person keeps the trip looking the way they like in their own app.
How to share a trip
Open the trip and tap the people icon at the top. Type a username or an email address, pick a role, and tap Invite.
- Someone already on littledots gets a notification, and the invite waits on their home screen and at Sharing Pending invitations , ready to accept or decline.
- Someone who isn't on littledots yet gets an email with a link. They sign up, come back to the link, and they're on the trip.
Until they accept, they're listed under Pending on the trip and at Sharing Pending invitations , and you can withdraw the invite from either place.
Roles
Everyone on a trip sees the same dates, place, itinerary, photos and files, at the same times whichever timezone each of you is in (Timezones explains how). If someone changes one of them, everyone sees the change. What you're allowed to change depends on your role:

A trip can have more than one organizer, and always keeps at least one. An organizer can change someone's role at any time by tapping it in the member list. The change applies right away, and that person gets a notification.
Settings that only affect you
These work the same for every role, guests included. Nobody else on the trip sees them.
- Title, emoji, color and cover photo
- Whether the trip is pinned to your map (and counts toward your awards)
- Whether it appears on your public journal
Leaving a trip
Open the trip, tap the menu and choose Leave this trip. The trip stays with everyone else, and you lose access to it.
Or choose Leave and keep a copy. You leave all the same, and the title, dates, place and your pin stay with you as a trip in your own list. Your photos and files either go with you or stay on the trip.
If you uploaded photos or files, you choose what happens to them:
- Delete them removes them from the trip.
- Leave them here hands them over for good. The others keep using them, on their journals too.
Itinerary items you added stay on the trip either way.
If the last organizer leaves, everyone still on the trip is asked to take it on, and the first to tap Take it on becomes the organizer. If you're the last person on a trip, leaving means deleting it, and the app tells you before you do.
When someone is removed
If you remove someone
Open the trip's member list and remove them. They get a notification, and from then on:
- They can no longer see the itinerary, other people's photos and files, or any changes to the trip.
- Photos and files they uploaded stay on the trip.
- They're listed under No longer on this trip. You can invite them again at any time, and they're back where they were.
If you were removed
The trip moves to the top of your trips list, under Removed, and shows at Sharing Pending invitations too. It keeps the title, the dates and the place. Your photos and files stay on the trip, and they're yours to move or delete. The itinerary and everything other people added are gone, and the trip no longer changes when they change it.
It stays on your map, and if you published it on your public journal, it stays there too, with the same details.
You can leave it like that for good, or tap it and choose:
- Add to my trips turns it into a trip you can edit, with your title, dates, place and pin. The itinerary and other people's photos don't come along. You decide whether your photos and files go with you or stay on the old trip.
- Remove from my trips takes it off your list, your map and your journal. You decide whether your photos and files stay on the old trip or get deleted.
Deleting a shared trip
A trip can only be deleted once nobody else is on it. As long as other people are on it, the menu offers Leave this trip instead, and the trip stays with them.
To delete a shared trip:
- Make sure you're an organizer.
- Open the member list and remove everyone else. Invites that haven't been accepted yet don't count.
- Open the menu. It now says Delete this trip.
Deleting removes the trip and everything on it for good. The one exception is people you removed: anyone who still had photos or files on it keeps them, in their own copy of the trip, and gets a notification saying so. Anyone you removed without photos simply loses it from their trips list and journal. This can't be undone.
