Your trip on a map
Your photos already know where you were. Most phones save a location with every picture, and littledots reads it when you upload them. A trip's Map tab puts the two things you added together: the places on your itinerary and the photos you took, on one map, joined in the order you got there.

What the map shows
Every itinerary item with a place is on the map, and so is every photo that knows where it was taken. A filled marker is somewhere you have been. A hollow one is still a plan, and it fills in once you mark the item visited or a photo shows you were there.
Photos taken close together are grouped under one marker with a count on it, and they come apart as you zoom in. Everything with a time is joined in the order it happened, so the trip draws its own line, from the airport on the first morning to the last dinner.
A photo with no location of its own is drawn faded, where it was most likely taken. The app works that out from the itinerary item the photo is on, or from the photos you took just before and after it, and nothing is saved to the photo unless you say so.
The line above the map counts it all up: how many places, over how many days, and how far you went.
What your photos notice
Your photos often know things your itinerary does not. Say you spent an evening in a village that never made it onto the plan. Your photos from there show up as a place of their own, and one tap turns that evening into an itinerary item, with the right day on it.
Under the map the app lists everything like that it noticed, grouped by kind, and each one has a button saying what it does:
- Locations are itinerary items without a place, where the photos on them show where they were. Place it saves that spot to the item.
- Places not on the itinerary are places you took photos that have no item. Add it makes one.
- Visited are items your photos show you went to. Mark visited ticks them off.
- Dates are items without a date, where the photos show the day. Set date saves it.
- Photos to file under an item were taken at an item but filed under the whole trip. Move photo puts them with the item.
- Photo locations are photos without a location. Place it gives them the spot of their item, or of the photos around them.
A group with several in it has a button at the top that applies all of them at once. What you apply changes the trip for everybody on it, and Ignore hides a suggestion for you alone. Items the app could not place from any photo are listed last, so you can pick their spot on the map yourself.
Whose photos count
Settings Privacy Photo locations decides whose photos make your maps: Off, My photos or All trip photos. It starts on My photos. A trip can have its own setting under Photo locations on its Details tab, for the one trip where you want something different.
Everyone on a shared trip sees a map of their own, made from the photos their own setting allows. What your public journal shows is decided separately, trip by trip, in Your public journal.
Where to find it
The Map tab is on every trip. On a trip you are back from, it sits right after Photos. On a trip that is still ahead or under way, it is under More. The Details tab carries a short summary of it as well, with Open map to go across.
